Driving Supply Chain Excellence: Connecting Innovation with Reliability!

MEPPI’s High Voltage Switchgear Division (HVSD) is seeking a detail-oriented Buyer to manage procurement for both production and office operations. In this role, you will source materials and services at the best price and quality, maintain strong supplier relationships, and ensure timely availability of components critical to supporting continuous operations.

What You’ll Do

  • Source & Negotiate: Identify and qualify suppliers based on price, quality, and delivery specifications. Negotiate terms and conditions to secure cost-effective materials and services.
  • Ensure Supplier Performance: Monitor supplier capabilities, track deliveries, expedite late orders, and resolve performance issues.
  • Collaborate Across Teams: Partner with HVSD Design and Quality Engineering to drive cost reductions through design changes, material selection, and process improvements.
  • Optimize Inventory: Maintain optimal levels of production materials, small parts, expense items, and fixed assets—both domestic and imported—to support uninterrupted operations.
  • Analyze Market Trends: Evaluate specifications and market conditions to determine the best sourcing options. Provide updates to Sales, Marketing, and Management on pricing shifts and material availability.
  • Support Customer Needs: Communicate with Sales regarding significant price movements and help fulfill urgent component requirements for field service issues.
  • Manage Purchase Orders: Review requisitions, assign purchase order numbers, and verify accuracy of computer-generated POs, delivery dates, and closing processes.
  • Oversee Supplier Base: Manage vendors to provide forecast data, establish delivery terms, and ensure alignment with production requirements.
  • Interpret Technical Specs: Review technical diagrams and specifications to aid in developing solutions and securing expedited deliveries.
  • Track Supplier Metrics: Maintain performance records for delivery, cost, and responsiveness. Drive continuous improvement in supplier performance and report results.
  • Handle Returns & Logistics: Negotiate defective material returns, obtain RMAs, and coordinate transportation.
  • Travel as Needed: Visit domestic and international suppliers to strengthen relationships and resolve quality, cost, and delivery challenges.
  • Maintain Accurate Data: Ensure completeness and accuracy of all Item Master fields tied to purchasing.

What You Bring

  • Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or a related discipline, plus at least 5 years of purchasing and/or materials coordination experience (or equivalent mix of education and experience).
  • Supply Chain Expertise: Intermediate knowledge of supply chain systems, ERP/MRP practices, and procurement techniques.
  • Analytical Skills: Advanced problem-solving and decision-making abilities with a focus on efficiency and cost savings.
  • Technology Proficiency: Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office and ERP/MRP systems.
  • Communication Strength: Exceptional interpersonal and negotiation skills to interact effectively with employees, vendors, and stakeholders.

  • Retirement Plans: 401(k) with company match of up to 4%.
  • Generous Paid Time Off: Vacation after 90 days, plus 12 paid holidays annually.
  • Career Development: Training programs and educational assistance to support your growth.
  • Employee Perks: Profit sharing, on-site fitness center in Warrendale, PA, and access to MEPPI’s Wellness Program.
