Employee Relations Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY:

MEPPI's Corporate Human Resources Department is looking for an Employee Relations Specialist to provide broad functional support to employees and managers in the area of employee relations. This includes performance management, supervisor coaching, temporary staffing, employee benefits/leaves of absences, policy administration and training for office and manufacturing employees in a multi-shift environment. In addition, the successful candidate will ensure HR policies, procedures and programs are integrated into assigned businesses. We are looking for candidates who have a minimum of 7 years of relevant human resource experience in a manufacturing setting with a diverse workforce

THE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:

  • Foster positive working relationships between employees, supervisors, managers, and other internal and external contacts, while ensuring legal compliance and ethical practices when working toward company goals.
  • Provide direct access to employees, supervisors, managers, and others for inquiries and participate in meetings as necessary. This includes normal business hours and off-shift hours.
  • Research and respond to employee concerns and questions. Conduct informal reviews and formal investigations as appropriate. Mediate and facilitate discussions to resolve conflicts and disputes between others.
  • Provide coaching for managers and supervisors on techniques for promoting positive employee relations.
  • Oversee and participate in the leave management process including employee discussions, accommodation assessments, documentation review, and manager communications. Perform, or assist with, the implementation and maintenance of new and existing programs.
  • Participate in the internal hourly job posting process and perform temporary employee recruitment.
  • Assist in the maintenance of government regulatory/compliance programs such as affirmative action, legal compliance, and immigration issues.
  • Develop and deliver refresher training and working sessions with first line supervisors and managers as applicable to support their continuing development and understanding of supervisory techniques. Recommend and support curriculum for MEPPI University and other training initiatives.
  • Prepare reports and summaries of employee relations metrics and activities for HR leadership.
  • Assist with acquisitions to support the workforce transition from one company to MEPPI.
  • Support and ensure the integrity of HR systems. Monitor and ensure data is accurate, deadlines are maintained, and employee communications are effective.
  • Support and assist the HR management team as needed.
  • Further the goals and positive, professional image of the Human Resources Department by acting as a liaison between other MEPPI departments, government agencies, etc.
  • Know MEPPI’s Environmental and Quality Policies. Be able to fully discuss the importance of MEPPI’s Environmental and Quality Policies and how they impact work.

EDUCATION/SPECIAL SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business, or related field, with a minimum of 7 years of relevant human resource experience in an industrial or manufacturing setting with a diverse workforce, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Knowledge of state and federal employment laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge of Human Resources policies, procedures, and handbooks.
  • Advanced interpersonal, verbal, and written skills required to communicate effectively with employees and managers.
  • Intermediate analytical, organization and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and on several projects simultaneously.
  • Advanced computer skills with emphasis on Microsoft Office products and HR systems.
