POSITION SUMMARY
Perform engineering activities for design, development, application, customer order design, manufacture, assembly, test, installation and servicing of Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Perform engineering activities that support the design and manufacture of new Transportation Systems Division (TSD) products and the advancement of existing HVAC products.
- Design new and/or improve refrigeration circuits for HVAC systems and related components including piping, accumulator, coils, fans, and heaters.
- Assist with the creation of proposals including budgets, schedules, and technical specifications.
- Meet with customers and end-users to discuss and resolve technical, financial, and schedule issues. Lead root cause evaluations of failure and defects as assigned.
- Develop, prepare and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) and design drawings.
- Issue and maintain HVAC manuals, training documents, presentations, contractual documents, etc.
- Originate, select and/or maintain purchasing specifications for all components of an HVAC system.
- Support field service work by providing information and troubleshooting equipment both remotely and in person.
- Develop and/or approve HVAC assembly and test processes. Direct and coordinate assembly and testing of prototype products.
- Identify U.S. components to replace imported components and participate in vendor qualification
- Perform product and equipment testing. Compile and analyze operational, test, and research data to establish performance standards for newly designed or modified equipment or product.
- Assist and support Manufacturing, Quality and Sales departments with production and documentation needs.
- Further the goals and positive, professional image of the Department by conducting business with outside contacts and other MEPPI departments in a timely and cooperative manner.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning Technology or HVAC/R, with 3-5 years’ experience in a design engineering capacity, or equivalent education and experience.
- Advanced knowledge of HVAC technology and design.
- Advanced interpersonal, communication and presentation skills required to communicate with customers, employees, and suppliers.
- Ability to work in a team environment and on several projects simultaneously.
- Ability to read, understand and create technical drawings and material.
- Advanced analytical and problem solving skills.
- Advanced computer skills, with emphasis on Microsoft Office products, CAD software, and ERP/MRP systems.
