POSITION SUMMARY
Independently lead power system analysis, engineering, design, modeling, and specifications of UPS and Energy Storage Solutions, including requirements development, application studies, white papers, model development/testing. Independently prepare and present technical reports, designs and proposals in response for customers and strategic partners.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Perform as a lead design engineer for UPS Solutions including all essential engineering and system analysis aspects from initial planning stages through study, design and test. Provide support in the area of manufacturing, installation, and field verification of UPS Solutions.
- Perform systems engineering activities driving the requirements development, verification, and validation of advanced power electronics, such as converters and inverters, using medium to high power switching components (>500kW and up) and associated protection and gating circuitry. Equipment designs to employ the appropriate devices (IGBTs, MOSFETS, etc.) depending on the application.
- Provide technical consultation and leadership in the areas of power converter topology selection and development while ensuring compliance with applicable customer and regulatory requirements and standards.
- Review order documents to ensure MEPPI meets the technical requirements of the contract, including exceptions, clarifications, and confirmations to the customer’s technical specifications when required.
- Manage the design of overseas partners and vendors. Regularly coordinate and lead design review meetings as needed driving the creation of specifications and test plans that meet MEPPI’s needs creating specifications and presentations of the highest standards to reflect development status and required actions.
- Lead validation testing on new designs and products, and drive development changes as needed to meet product requirements. Compile and analyze operational, test and research data to establish performance standards for newly designed or modified equipment/products and determine if design meets functional and system performance requirements.
- Collaborate with other departments and divisions to generate and present conference papers, white papers, and presentations for a wide internal and external audience.
- Own complex technical problems in field and in operations that span across multiple departments and stakeholders
- Monitor existing industry and regulatory trends, including but not limited to UL and utility requirements, and their impact to existing and new solutions. Lead activity in industry-related organizations such as IEEE, PES, CIGRE, NEMA and other such groups.
- Independently prepare and lead technical papers and articles for publication in professional society journals and trade magazines; and for presentation at professional society meetings, industry conferences, and exhibitions.
- Further the goals and positive, professional image of the Division through interaction with other MEPPI divisions and vendors.
