Design Engineer II

Position Summary

Provide all design engineering drawings and documents as related to customer orders, support manufacturing efforts and provide customer support on all products of the Critical Power Solutions Division (CPSD).

Essential Functions

  • Oversee the preparation of all technical documents (ex. drawings, purchasing specifications, Bills of Materials (BOMs), Instruction Book (IBs), etc.) required to support order placements, manufacturing/assembly operations, and customer needs.
  • Prepare design direction and clarification as required to other Engineering personnel.
  • Seek and resolve of all customer technical questions as required.
  • Write test scripts for and perform testing of uninterruptible supply systems and batteries in MEPPI’s power lab.
  • Develop product BOMs and design drawings to support customer’s technical requirements, and coordinate design with production, purchasing, quality personnel.
  • Coordinate outside design efforts of other design teams consistent with Division products and goals.
  • Develop and design concepts and work with other Engineering personnel to complete designs as required. 
  • Assist Manufacturing, Purchasing and Quality Assurance with any production problems.
  • Recommend and implement design improvements and cost reductions.
  • Act as project leader for all design, test, and prototype programs as assigned.
  • Coordinate all prototype efforts with others as needed.
  • Work with vendors to resolve any technical design issues.
  • Travel to customer’s site and/or trade shows to provide product support as required.
  • Develop and design U.S. components to replace imported components.
  • Prepare instruction books and renewal parts lists.

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering with a minimum 3 years’ of experience in a design engineering capacity, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Intermediate knowledge of power electronics and power and energy systems including converters and invertors.
  • Experience with performing measurement, testing, and troubleshooting of high-power equipment in laboratory or field environments.
  • Experience with reading, understanding and creating technical drawings and material.
  • Intermediate analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Intermediate interpersonal, communication and presentation skills required to communicate with customers, employees, and vendors.
  • Ability to work on several projects simultaneously.
  • Advanced computer skills, with emphasis on MS Office products, CAD and engineering analysis software.
