Position Summary
Manage project, design, and development engineering functions and staff for designated product lines and other programs of the Transportation Systems Division (TSD).
Essential Functions
- Manage project engineering activities to meet project schedules and contract deliverables.
- Manage design engineering activities to meet customer technical commitments and collaborate with MELCO to ensure compliance with contract technical specifications.
- Manage product development projects to realize the project objectives, budget, and schedule.
- Prepare engineering resource plans and coordinate resources with Program Managers to support projects and production issues.
- Collaborate with TSD Purchasing for localization of materials, components, and systems.
- Manage the drafting and designer section.
- Work with the Field Service Manager to address field failures in the timeframe stipulated in the customer contract.
- Work with the Operations Department to address all engineering related issues identified in the factory.
- Ensure MEPPI Quality Assurance has support for the development and delivery of training for TSD products test procedures, design reviews, First Articles of Inspection, and Pre-Ship Inspection.
- Create required Engineering processes and procedures.
- Analyze product designs and recommend price reduction initiatives.
- Support engineering efforts of the sales function and provide resources for bids.
- Provide engineering support for spare parts and Condition Based Monitoring Programs.
- Lead and direct staff according to Company policies and procedures to effectively achieve division and department objectives. Develop employees by training, cross-training and providing continuing education opportunities. Conduct performance reviews and provide input for salary decisions.
- Further the goals and positive, professional image of the Transportation Systems Division through effective dealings with customers and other internal departments and divisions
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 7 years of engineering experience with companies that manufacture electrical products and 3 years of management, or equivalent education and experience.
- Advanced verbal and written communications skills to work in technical environment
- Advanced skills in developing team approaches for working with sales and project personnel.
- Advanced interpersonal skills to effectively lead in a matrix management structure.
- Advanced ability to read, interpret and understand technical intent of customer supplied drawings, technical specifications and testing requirements.
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Developed computer skills with emphasis on MS Office Products and engineering software.
